Company History

Independent Lifestyles was founded in June 2002 and opened for business on July 1, 2002. Since then we have continued to expand and grow as the mobility industry vastly changes. After opening, we recognized the need in the community for a broader approach to the market, so we started a rental service. We offer handicap accessible vans along with scooters, power wheelchairs, ramps, elevators and many other accessible devices and equipment. We rent most of our items and sell all of them! But that’s not all we do…

We maintain a current and full-range inventory listing on our website for your convenience as well as links for customers to locate resources. We understand how difficult it can be to purchase such large items, but we will work with you to find appropriate funding. Our clients sometimes need up to 10 years to pay for equipment and we can help arrange that with one of our great financing partners. We look forward to providing customers with the opportunity to be independent and handle daily living needs with ease.

Last, but not least the entire staff at the dozens of corporations that we use throughout the nation, help us serve you as well! We rely on their expertise and knowledge of the innovative products in the mobility business. We call them routinely on your behalf to solve issues with vans, scooters, power chairs, stair lifts, and other equipment. They work hand in hand with us to help keep you on the go.

Carrie has established herself as a leader in this industry. She is respected throughout the nation as a reliable, dependable and trustworthy business owner that will go the extra mile for her clients. She is the owner and main stockholder at Independent Lifestyles and is the final decision maker. Her talents are numerous and extensive. She has been working with limited mobility individuals most of her life and has been in business for almost 20 years serving the community. She and her daughter make their home in Elon.

Allison Campbell

Sales & Marketing

Allie has grown up in the mobility industry and is excited to serve her local community’s needs at Independent Lifestyles. Allison goes above and beyond to ensure that the customer gets what best fits their mobility needs and will ensure an informed buying process for all customers. Allison recently graduated from Bluefield College and move back to Madison Heights to pursue her career as a certified mobility consultant. Allison serves on the alumni board of directors for Bluefield College as well as volunteering for other organizations in the community.

Ashley Roberts

Veteran Affairs Liaison

Ashley is a great asset to our team as she sustained a spinal cord injury in 2005 at the age of 16. She uses a manual wheelchair and is familiar with our mobility equipment here. Ashley is the founder of Wheel Mommies, a spinal cord injury support group for women, a peer mentor for the Christopher Reeve foundation and the United Spinal Association. She raises her son here in Madison Heights.

Dave, our newest employee, has joined our company as a salesman with an extensive background in sales and management in a variety of industries. He has a background in the construction, housing, and finance businesses. Customer service is a passion of his as is Scouting. He is a local Scout leader and Cub master.

Riley is our door greeter and the customers favorite employee!

We contract a large staff of drivers and maintenance personnel to pick up and deliver vehicles for repair, rental or sold units all across the Mid-Atlantic.
